TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. – Coast Guard Station Tybee Island, Ga., is to hold a boating safety event on the station's grounds at Cockspur Island, Tybee Island, Ga., 31328, Saturday at 9 a.m.

The boating safety open house is a community outreach event to educate mariners and provide an understanding of local agencies that are responsible for responding to maritime distress in the area.

The boating safety event will include the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Savannah Navy League, Tybee Fire Department, Tybee Marine Rescue Squadron, Tybee Island Sail and Power Squadron, Chatham County Marine Patrol, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Included will be several educational booths and the availability to interact with the agencies.

Boaters are invited to bring their boats and receive a courtesy inspection by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Station Tybee Island crewmembers will support a flare shoot allowing participants to bring their own old pyrotechnics and launch them in a safe, monitored, and facilitated setting onboard Station Tybee Island’s grounds.

This flare shoot is to promote an educational approach and to prepare boaters for any future possible emergency situations.

The event will last until approximately 3 p.m.
