News Release: Search suspended for 13-year-old boy near Washougal, Wash.
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 13-year-old boy who went missing in the water near Washougal, Wash., Monday.
Coast Guard units, along with local police and fire agencies began the search at approximately 10:20 a.m. after the Sector Columbia River Command Center received a radio transmission concerning two people in the water near Lady Island, Wash. Station Portland was directed to launch a 25-response boat crew while Air Station Astoria diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene.
The two men were rescued by Good Samaritans and transferred to shore, but reported a boy with them had gone into the water as well. Reports from the scene indicate three were aboard an 18-foot boat, which sank while they attempted to recover their anchor.
Anyone who sights the child or with information useful to the search should contact the Coast Guard Sector Columbia River command center at 503-861-6211.
For more information regarding this case, please contact Petty Officer Shawn Eggert at 206-819-9154.
