VIDEO RELEASE: Coast Guard, local emergency agencies urge hurricane preparedness

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Members from the Coast Guard, National Weather Service and the Virginia Beach Life Saving Service give hurricane preparedness recommendations for the 2012 hurricane season. As storms approach the Coast Guard urges people to stay informed, evacuate as necessary, secure boats and boating equipment, be cautious of hazardous materials and stay clear of beaches. PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard, National Weather Service and Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service are urging Hampton Roads mariners and residents to begin planning and preparing for the 2012 Atlantic hurricane Season, which starts Friday.

Experts from each service spoke about hurricane preparedness, the 2012 storm season and the Coast Guard's response measures Tuesday in Virginia Beach.
