Coast Guard Band OpSail Concert at Fort Trumbull State Park

U.S. Coast Guard Band. U.S. Coast Guard photograph taken by Harold Shapiro.NEW LONDON, Conn. — The U.S. Coast Guard Band is scheduled to perform an outdoor concert at Fort Trumbull State Park on Saturday at 7 p.m. 

Cdr. Kenneth Megan will lead the band in an exciting performance followed by a brilliant fireworks display in conjunction with OpSail 2012.  

The program features familiar patriotic tunes and other works celebrating the seafaring traditions of New England. Soloists include percussionist Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Smith, who dazzles on “The Golden Age of the Xylophone” and soprano soloist Petty Officer 1st Class Megan Weikleenget singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “America the Beautiful.” The concert, which includes marches by John Philip Sousa, also features a set of toe-tapping traditional jazz by the Coast Guard Dixieland Band.
