Coast Guard medically evacuates injured man 35 miles south of Moriches, N.Y.

NEW YORK - The Coast Guard is medically evacuating a 22-year-old man who was injured aboard a sailing vessel 35 miles south of Moriches, N.Y., Monday, June 25, 2012.
The Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center in New Haven, Conn., received a report from the master of the sailing vessel Conviction that a crewmember had been knocked down by rigging and struck his head. The crewmember was temporarily knocked unconscious and is experiencing severe disorientation, neck pain, pain in his left thigh and a chipped tooth.
The Coast Guard launched a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., which is on-scene with the vessel.
