SAN PEDRO, Calif. — A Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew located the body of a missing diver at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, off the west coast of Santa Cruz Island.

The National Park Service contracted a helicopter to transport the diver from Santa Cruz Island to the Santa Barbara County Coroner.

The 64 year-old male diver had gone missing Monday afternoon while diving for sea urchin from the fishing vessel Josefina Dos near Santa Cruz Island.

Rescue helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, the Coast Guard Cutters Halibut and Blackfin, and boat crews from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor participated in the search after the incident was first reported to Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach at approximately 1 p.m. Monday.

Ventura County Sheriff's Department and Los Angeles County Divers also participated in the search.
