NEW LONDON, Conn. — With the arrival of OpSail 2012 to New London, the U.S. Coast Guard Museum located on the campus of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy will have extended public visiting hours.

The museum's OpSail hours are:

Friday, July 6: 8 a.m - 4 p.m.
Saturday, July 7: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Sunday, July 8: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Monday, July 9: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The museum is located in Waesche Hall on campus. The academy is in close proximity to the Connecticut College parking shuttle stop. A photo ID or other form of government ID is needed to access the campus and admission is free.

The museum explores the complex history of the Coast Guard, the nation's oldest continual seagoing service, and its many missions. Highlights include a rare Life-Saving Service Banner, a collection of lighthouse lenses, the original 1936 figurehead of the Coast Guard's sail-training vessel U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, a flood punt used in the rescues after Hurricane Katrina and a 16th century Japanese sword surrendered at the end of World War II.
