Coast Guard announces July 4th weekend waterway restrictions in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — The Coast Guard Captain of the Port Pittsburgh will establish safety zones at various times and locations on July 1-4 to coincide with the 2012 EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta waterborne events.

On Sunday and Monday, a safety zone for powerboat races will be in place from mile marker 0.4, at the east edge of the USS Requin, to mile marker 0.0, Point State Park, on the Ohio River, extending 650 feet from the right descending bank and from mile marker 0.0 (Point State Park) to mile marker 0.2 (Fort Duquesne Bridge) on the Allegheny River, extending the entire width of the river Sunday and Monday from:

  • 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday 
  • 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday.  

There will be brief periods of time Sunday and Monday for vessels to pass through the area.

On Tuesday, a safety zone for a powerboat race and water ski event will be in place from mile marker 0.3 (west edge of Heinz Field) on the Ohio River mile marker 0.0 (Point State Park) to mile marker 0.6 (6th Street Bridge) on the Allegheny River, extending the entire width of the river from:

  • 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.  

There will be a brief periods for vessel traffic to pass through the area. 

On Wednesday, a safety zone for a dragonboat race and an anything-that-floats race will be in effect from mile marker 0.0 (Heinz Quay) to mile marker 0.3 (Mazeroski Way/Statue) on the Allegheny River extending 400 feet from the right descending bank from:

  • 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.  

Additionally, a safety zone will be in place for a powerboat race and water ski event from mile marker 0.3 (West edge of Heinz Field) on the Ohio River to mile marker 0.0 (Point State Park) to mile marker 0.6 (6th Street Bridge) on the Allegheny River, extending the entire width of the river from:

  • 1 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.  

There will be brief periods of time for vessel traffic to pass through the area.  

Persons and vessels shall not enter into, depart from, or move within this safety zone unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port Pittsburgh or a designated representative.
