Coast Guard rescues two near Wrightsville Beach

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard rescued two people from the water 500 yards off Wrightsville Beach, N.C., Sunday.

The two men fell in the water when a storm front moved through the area and caused their 17-foot sailing vessel to capsize.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., a security guard called Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach watchstanders reporting that the sailors were in the water.

A 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew launched from Station Wrightsville Beach and recovered the two men from the water.

Both men were reported to be in good condition.

"The Coast Guard would like to remind mariners how vital it is to stay alert to weather forecasts and to seek a safe haven before inclement weather arrives," said Petty Officer 1st Class Jordan Campbell, a watchstander at the 5th District command center.
