Coast Guard searches for 2 overdue fishermen in the Mona Passage
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard rescue crews are searching Friday for two fisherman reportedly overdue from a fishing trip to the vicinity of Mona Island, Puerto Rico.
Overdue is Hector De Jesus, 38, and Dixon Correa Bonilla, 32, who reportedly departed at 5 a.m. Tuesday on fishing trip from Puerto Real in Cabo Rojo aboard the 27-foot fishing vessel Kiara II, with a blue hull and a white cabin, and did not return Thursday evening, when they were expected to arrive.
Coast Guard Watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a telephone call Thursday night from a Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action (F.U.R.A.) agent, who initially reported the incident to the Coast Guard.
Coast Guard Sector San Juan Watchstanders proceeded to launch an Air Station Borinquen MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and a HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from Air Station Miami to search for the overdue fisherman.
Puerto Rico Joint Forces of Rapid action marine units and aircraft are assisting ongoing search efforts.
