Coast Guard is hosting Sea Cadet training in Portland, Ore.
Portland, Ore. — Coast Guard Station Portland, Ore., crewmembers are hosting a group of U.S. Naval Sea Cadets for law enforcement training in Portland. The training began July 6, 2012, and continues through Sunday, July 15.
The Maritime Interdiction Operations training will expose the cadets to life as maritime law enforcement officers who work to prevent threats to America’s waterways. Cadets will undergo rigrous physical workouts, endure self-defense training, become educated in firearms safety, learn about the dangers of illegal drugs and learn how to make use-of-force descions.
The cadets, aged 14-18, are a part of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps., a non-profit youth organization that teaches the cadets about patriosm, self-reliance and leadership. Cadets work alongside our nation’s seagoing services including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corps with no obligation to join any branch of service.
