News Release: Midgett transfers command

SEATTLE — Capt. Laura Dickey relieved Capt. William Meese of command of Coast Guard Cutter Midgett during a change-of-command ceremony held at the Coast Guard base on Pier 36, Thursday. 

Capt. Meese served as the commanding officer of Midgett from 2010-2012 and went on to retire in a ceremony following the change-of-command. Capt. Dickey was previously assigned to the office of congressional affairs where she served as the Coast Guard liaison to the U.S. Senate.

Capt. Dickey was a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn., earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Government. Her personal awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals and various service and unit awards.

Vice Adm. Paul F. Zukunft, Pacific Area Commander, presided over the ceremony.

Midgett, the 378-foot, High Endurance Cutter homeported in Seattle, is designed to perform each of the Coast Guard’s 11 missions, which include search and rescue, defense operations, law enforcement, and environmental protection. Midgett patrols the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea and the Eastern Pacific off the coast of South America.
