Coast Guard medically evacuates 13-year-old boy
BOSTON — Coast Guard rescue crews medically evacuated a 13-year-old boy from the fishing vessel Helen Louise, an 82-foot fishing vessel homeported in Aurora, N.C., approximately 100 miles east of Chatham, Mass., Aug. 5.
Watchstaders at the 1st Coast Guard District in Boston were notified at 3:35 a.m., Monday from the crew of the fishing vessel Helen Louise reporting that the captain's son had lacerated his hand and was in need of medical attention.
An Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched and safely hoisted the boy and his father. They were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.
"We were able to get the patient the medical care he needed," said Lt. j.g. Ashley Dufresne, the command duty officer at the 1st District in Boston. "We hope he recovers soon."
