CORRECTION: Coast Guard and local agencies search for missing man near East Rockaway N.Y.

*Correction: editing, all information remains*

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard is searching for a reported missing person near East Rockaway Inlet, N.Y., today.

Missing is 57 year-old male, Stanislaw Nawrocki, of Ridgewood, N.Y.

At approximately 5 p.m., a watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound in New Haven, Conn., was notified by Nassau County Police Department that a mariner was reporting his male friend fell overboard while fishing near the entrance to East Rockaway Inlet and he wasn’t able to locate him.

Coast Guard HU-25 Falcon Jet and MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crews from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., and Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat and 25-foot response boatcrews from Station Jones Beach, N.Y., are working together with air land and marine units from Nassau County, New York Police Department, Hempstead Bay Constables and Atlantique Beach.

“We are are hoping that by putting out as much information as possible about the reported missing person, that someone who knows him can contact us and help with the search,” said Chief Petty Officer Frank St. Pierre, the command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound. “We are saturating the area in hopes of finding this missing person.”

The initial report of the missing person to the authorities was approximately two to three hours following the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center at 203-468-4401.
