CGA combines efforts to commission NOAA Corps officers
NEW LONDON, Conn. — The United States Coast Guard Academy welcomed the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps’ Basic Officer Training Class 120 as they transitioned here from Kings Point, NY, on Saturday to commence their officer training program.
Twelve NOAA Corps commissioned officers arrived at the academy to commence a comprehensive 18-week program with the Coast Guard Academy to further align a shared goal of developing leaders of character.
NOAA brings with them a staff of three commissioned officers to the Chase Hall barracks, specifically to the Officer Candidate School. Over the course of the program, NOAA officers will train with 41 Coast Guard Officer Candidates that arrived on Aug. 9 and will be commissioned on Dec. 6.
The NOAA Corps is one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. NOAA Corps officers manage and operate NOAA’s fleet of research and survey ships and aircraft, and support the agency’s mission in a wide variety of land-based assignments.
