News Release: Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water near Yaquina Bay, Ore.
Newport, Ore.— The Coast Guard responded to a vessel taking on water near Yaquina Bay, Ore., Wednesday.
The ship's master of the fishing vessel Mary Jane reported he was taking on water at an uncontrollable rate 10 nautical miles northwest of Yaquina Bay at 4:16 p.m. Two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews from Stations Yaquina Bay and Depoe Bay and an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Facility Newport launched to assist the vessel.
A motor lifeboat crew boarded the vessel with dewatering equipment and successfully dewatered the vessel. Once the Mary Jane was sound, it was escorted back to Newport by the Coast Guard.
“The lifeboat crews from Stations Yaquina Bay and Depoe Bay did an outstanding job working together and aiding the fishing vessel Mary Jane. It goes to show how versatile our crews are,” stated Chief Warrant Officer Robert Ornelas, Commanding Officer of Station Yaquina Bay.
