Media Advisory: USCG, WSP, King County, Seattle PD to conduct emergency preparedness training with Washington State Ferries
SEATTLE — The U.S. Coast Guard, Washington State Patrol, King County Sheriff’s Office, and Seattle Police Department will be conducting a full-scale exercise, on the water, with the Washington State Ferries, from approximately 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2012.
The multiple agencies will conduct the exercise with the Washington State Ferries transiting from north of Vashon Island, Wash., to Edmonds, Wash.
The exercise will include King County helicopters deploying personnel by vertical insertion using fast ropes onto the ferry; and Coast Guard boats carrying first responders who will deploy onto the moving ferry.
“Threats in the maritime environment are very complex,” said Capt. Scott J. Ferguson. “This exercise will strengthen the partnerships of Puget Sound’s first-responders and enhance their capabilities, effectiveness and knowledge of the maritime domain.”
