UPDATE: Coast Guard crews suspend search for 59-year-old man near Port Canaveral, Fla.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Coast Guard crewmembers suspended their search Friday at 5:58 p.m., for a 59-year-old man who went missing 37 miles northeast of here.

Patrick Cornelius of Delaware, contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville at approximately 8 a.m., Wednesday and reported he was experiencing chest pain and a tingling sensation in his left arm.

A 45- foot Response Boat — Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral and an MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater arrived on scene and found that Cornelius was not aboard his 42-foot boat.

The Coast Guard searched 38 hours, covering approximately 7,710 square miles.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diamondback, an HC-130 Hercules aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, an MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Ga., and an HC-144 aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami were also involved in the search for Cornelius.

The incident is under investigation.
