SAN DIEGO — An aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated an injured Navy sailor from a submarine approximately 160 miles west of San Diego, Friday night.

The injured 22-year-old man was transported to San Diego and transferred to emergency medical personnel.

The Pearl Harbor-based submarine's crew contacted the Coast Guard just before 5 p.m., requesting a medevac for a crewmember who had fallen and suffered possible head injuries.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego to conduct the medevac. The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene and hoisted the man into the aircraft at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Emergency medical personnel met the returning aircrew at Sector San Diego at approximately 10:15 p.m., and transported the injured man to the hospital.
