Coast Guard Names 5 Honor Recipients

WASHINGTON -  The U.S. Coast Guard will recognize its five top performers during a ceremony scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m., here.

Who:   Adm. Thad Allen, Coast Guard Commandant; Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Skip Bowen and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Reserve Force Jeffery D. Smith, will honor five Coast Guard members who demonstrated exceptional performance in areas of leadership, work ethics, knowledge and community service during 2007.

The awardees are:

Petty Officer Second Class Christopher O. Hutto
United States Coast Guard Enlisted Person of the Year
CCG Hickory Homeport Homer, Alaska

Petty Officer First Class Victor M. Ramirez
United States Coast Guard Reserve Enlisted Person of the Year
Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur, Texas

Lena M. Gavello
Civilian Employee of the Year
Coast Guard Training Center Petalima, Calif.

Christopher M. Todd
New Auxiliarist of the Year
Flotilla 6-11 Miami, Fla.

Peggy Pies
Non-Appropriated Fund Employee of the Year
Coast Guard Integrated Support Command Kodiak, Alaska
