Hurricane Ike Update: Vessels in Port
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard has the released the following vessel totals for selected ports impacted by Hurricane Ike.
Houston:
- 3,000 barges in Sector Houston/Galveston area of responsibility (approx.)
- 446 red flag barges* (approx.)
- 22 deep-draft vessels
Port Arthur:
- 186 loaded barges (approx.)
- 7 vessels: 1 cargo, 6 integrated tug and barge
Lake Charles:
- 27 barges
- 23 red flag barges (19 loaded)
- 12 deep-draft vessels
Texas City/Galveston/Freeport:
- 2 deep-draft vessels each
- 1 loaded barge each
* Red flag barges carry dangerous cargo, typically petroleum
