WASHINGTON - The U.S. Coast Guard announced Thursday the publication of the final environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact that evaluates the potential environmental impacts resulting from the proposed construction and operation of a National Coast Guard Museum in New London, Conn.
This environmental assessment addresses the potential environmental, socioeconomic and cultural impacts of the National Coast Guard Museum Association's proposed construction and the U.S. Coast Guard's proposed acquisition, operation and maintenance of a national museum. The museum will preserve, record and display the service's rich history and artifacts within close proximity to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, as specified in Title 14, United States Code, Section 98.
The proposed museum will properly preserve and interpret the Coast Guard's role in United States maritime history while making the service's story more accessible to the nation it serves.
The environmental assessment is available for public review online at http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg4/cg443/NEPAhot.asp
