WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard's Marine Safety, Security and Stewardship Directorate announced Monday the Federal Register's publication of the final rule amending Coast Guard regulations covering the review of Great Lakes pilotage rates.
The final rule increases 2009 pilotage rates by 18.92 percent. The increase is due, in part, to recent changes in the American Maritime Officer's Union labor contracts negotiated between the union and the owners and operators of ships on the Great Lakes. The Coat Guard uses these contracts as a basis for setting target pilot compensation, which is a component of pilotage rates.
This final rule considered public comments received regarding the rule's impact.
The final rule and related materials may be reviewed at http://www.regulations.gov, docket number: USCG-2007-0039.
