*UPDATE* Leaders in diversity to gather for two-day Coast Guard summit

WASHINGTON – Top leaders in diversity management will convene at the Westin Alexandria, 400 Courthouse Square, Alexandria, Va., on April 21and 22, for the Coast Guard’s 2010 Diversity Leadership Summit.

The summit aims to address internal organizational diversity issues, as well as external multicultural concerns that may affect the Coast Guard as a partner in the international maritime operating environment.

Among the distinguished panelists and guest speakers participating in this two-day event are: Adm. Thad Allen, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard; His Excellency Ambassador Raymond Alcide Joseph, Embassy of Haiti; Her Excellency Ambassador Houda Ezra Nonoo, Kingdom of Bahrain; Mrs. Janet Langhart Cohen, chairman of Langhart Communications; Mr. Frederick Douglass IV, the great-great grandson of Frederick Douglass and founder of the Frederick Douglass Organization, Mrs. Harriet Fulbright, President of the J. William and Harriet Fulbright Center; and Ms. Cristina Caballero, founder and president of Dialogue on Diversity.

The U.S. Coast Guard is committed to building and sustaining an organizational climate in which people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, races, religions, and ethnicities are fully included, valued, and respected. The 2010 Diversity Leadership Summit is a professional development training opportunity directly aligned to support the Coast Guard’s Diversity Strategic Plan, implemented in September 2009.
