Bedroom Mood Board.

BEDROOM MOOD BOARD.

We’re spending every waking moment working on our bedroom at the moment – we never properly finished the floors when we moved all of our furniture in, and I have big plans for this room so there’s been a lot of planning happening.

I have spent a lot of time wondering what to do with this room – when we moved in it was pretty gross (a few people in my ‘moving in’ YouTube vlog told me to leave!), but I knew it had potential. We had the walls replastered, painted them white and then painted the (dark blue!) floorboards white to match. I left the skirting boards, the area around the door and the window area wood, which I loved but the skirting boards are super old and looked a bit worn out. I decided to paint the skirting boards this week, but I left the door and window area wood – I wasn’t sure if it was going to be too much white, and I was pretty nervous because it’s quite an irreversible process – but thankfully I love it! It looks really clean and the wood that’s left really adds warmth. You can see it taking shape in the above snap.

I’ve spent a lot of time pinning to my Bedroom board on Pinterest – I think I have some solid ideas that are going to transform the room. I struggle a little getting the balance of traditional and contemporary just right – as the room has incredible cornicing, real floorboards, big windows and high ceilings, I don’t want to many ‘too modern’ touches. I also have a hard time getting the ‘white balance’ right – I have kind of gone off white furniture recently, but I never know if mixing wood finishes looks good until I see it all come together.

I’m slowly replacing most of my IKEA furniture with more original pieces, but it’s an expensive job and sometimes I just head back to IKEA purely for the money I save.

Below are some mood boards I put together, with the help of Pinterest, to help me come up with ideas on how to style the room. One thing I’ll absolutely be doing is building a shelf in the alcove we have (where my rail is currently) – I found this pin after I had toyed with the idea for a while and I was instantly sold. I just love how cute and cosy it looks.

I also really want lots of gold, white and grey in here – I purchased a gold mirror yesterday (£8 charity shop find) and it’s set the whole room off. I’m struggling to find nice bedside tables at the moment, I don’t think I want white ones, so I might but the IKEA Hemnes because I like the style, and then sand it down, stain it and put new knobs on so you can’t tell it’s IKEA at all. Sneaky.

I also want a gold diamond wire light fitting in here – I think I will have to paint one I find on eBay but I think it’s a nice retro/modern twist. As the room is so white, the gold details will really help to add warmth – sometimes all-white rooms can look really cold if you don’t have the right touches. I already have one all-white room (my office), but luckily I like pops of colour so we’re usually all good.

Finally, plants are a must. I’m definitely going to do some sort of floor-plant pot thing in one of the corners. I also want another hanging plant feather, but I think I’ll do it with gold plant pots and maybe black string, something striking but not too crazy!

What do you think of my plans so far? All the images, sources etc. can be found here.
