I’ve never own a kitchen scale before. I guess I never realized what they did and so I didn’t see the need for one. EatSmart recently introduced me to their Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale™.

The scale couldn’t be easier to use. Simply put the 2 AAA batteries in the back(they’re included) and press the on/off button. Press the Tare button to get it to 0 and then press the Unit button until it is where you want it(g, oz, etc).

I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I had no clue you could figure out how many calories something had by weighing it. This book provides me with the calorie factor for many different types of food. If you weigh it on your scale(in grams) and multiply by the calorie factor that the book provides, you can determine the calories in that portion.

For example, these three huge grapes weigh 28 grams, so I would multiply that by the calorie factor of .69 that the book gives me to find out how many calories I was about to eat.

Its amazing how much I use this scale now that I know what it does. I wish that I would have had one years ago, and I plan on purchasing one for my mom. It is really nice to know how many calories I’m eating, and it also helps me weigh different items for recipes.
