I’m not sure if that should say ‘my first wall hanging ATTEMPT’ because I will (hopefully) look back at this in a few months and think well, what a disastrous effort. However, this is only my second finished wall hanging – I think of the first one as more of a practice attempt to get the hang of it. It’s not bad, I should probably actually put it up on my wall but this one is miles better. Bit of an incoherent ramble there, sorry.
So, if you follow me on Instagram (and you should!) you may have noticed that in recent months I have taken up weaving. I bought a small loom and weaving kit to make some wall hangings and I’ve quickly become hooked. Why, you ask? Well, the main reason is that I kept seeing wall hangings on sale and I just loved them – they’re the perfect piece for our flat and I love how different they can be. The other reason being that Jordan is away a lot with the band, pretty much until Christmas now, so I wanted something to keep me occupied and out of the cold. Plus, I’m an old granny at heart. I also saw a wall hanging on sale in Anthro a few months back and I just fell in love, I needed it! Until I looked at the price – a casual £900. Within a week, my loom kit was on its way to me from Australia, all for about £28!

I bought the kit from here, and it has everything I need. The frame is easy to set up, although of course you could make your own, and it has all the tools you’ll need to get started. All you have to buy is some nice chunky wools (I get mine from John Lewis) in different colours and you’re set.
I won’t go in to too much detail on here, as I’m going to be writing a whole series of weaving posts over on Nouvelle – how to set up your loom, basic weaving techniques and other tutorials – all for beginners so we can learn together. I suggest you stock up on wool and buy/make your kit now!
What do you think of my first wall hanging?
