We all know that hot weather + makeup just don’t mix, and no matter how sheer we go, that BB cream or tinted moisturiser will slip off just like any old foundation. I’ve noticed after a few trips out in the sun that my makeup just hasn’t been lasting, it slips off and looks pretty grim after even just a few minutes in the sun, so a new routine was required…
I start by using a good balancing moisturiser in the morning to ensure my skin stays hydrated yet oil-free throughout the day, I’ve actually only just started using the Jurlique Balancing Day Care Cream (£24.75) but so far, it’s been keeping my skin in check. I don’t think I have oily skin generally, but when the sun shows its face (twice a year) I do notice I get a slick T-zone. I find that applying oil-free or mattifying products just doesn’t work – the former isn’t hardcore enough and the latter just dries out areas such as the cheeks and chin that need moisture. A balancing cream fits the bill as it regulates the oil and moisture so the skin is in check throughout the day. I’ll keep you updated on my progress with this little lovely.
Also on hand for keeping excess oil at bay is the new Illamasqua Matte Veil Primer (£30) a weird sort of gel that feels beautiful on the skin. I find that this leaves my skin looking really perfected, as well as keeping it fresh throughout the day. Like the above, it doesn’t dehydrate my skin or leave it feeling tacky – it simply keeps oil balanced no matter what the weather. I actually really love how this feels on my skin, it makes it super smooth and more even too. A really great little pot!
I’ve been using the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (£29) a lot lately, I think because it’s so light but somehow also really perfecting. I only need the smallest amount but I feel like my skin looks really lovely after application. It’s ideal for summer because it feels pretty weightless on the skin, so I don’t mind wearing it on even the hottest days.
A new staple in my makeup bag is the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Moon Beach (£30) – this shade is absolutely perfect, a lovely warming coral with a beautiful gold shimmer throughout. It reminds me a little of NARS Orgasm but with a creamy formula that stays put throughout just about anything. It’s so blendable but sets in place for long wear. Me love.
Finally, I’ve been reaching for the Clinique High Impact Waterproof Mascara (£17.50) to make sure my lashes are full without the smudges. I always get marks on my brow bone in the heat so I’m not taking any chances from now on, this stuff just doesn’t budge so it’s a favourite of mine!
Do you have any heat-proof, melt-proof staples I should check out?
