I’ll be the first to admit that it has taken a lot of time for me to get into the kitchen and make more than just cookies, brownies, pies, cakes, and other sweets. I’ve always preferred to bake desserts to making dinner. I have slowly learned how to cook over the past 5 years that we’ve been married and I am always armed with Morton Salt. They recently sent me this large assortment of their products to use in my kitchen.

I can’t think of many meals that I don’t use salt with, but a family favorite are baked fries. I usually do this with sweet potatoes, but I used regular ones for this recipe.

- 3-4 large Russet Potatoes(I don’t peel them-simply wash and cut into 1/4 inch strips)
- Nonstick Cooking Spray
- 2-3 tablespoons Olive Oil(you can use vegetable oil)
- coarse salt and ground pepper to taste
Cover the potatoes with water and refrigerate for about 3 hours. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and lightly coat a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray. Drain the potatoes and dry with a paper towel. Toss potatoes in a bowl with the oil and salt/pepper. Bake for about 45 minutes. We don’t like ours too crisp so I take them out shortly after they are soft. This makes more than enough for my family of 4.
Salt can also be used for more things than just cooking. People use it for things like freshening flowers and relieving stings. Morton is actually having a contest that runs until January 10th. All readers need to do is upload a picture and brief description of their secret use or tip for using Morton Salt. Readers can enter the contest on the “Contest” tab on Morton Salt’s Facebook Fan Page. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 AMEX gift card.
