One Year On…

One Year On…

Today marks a year since we moved in to our forever home, and it’s been one hell of a year! I’m still surprised at how much we’ve done to this place, and I wanted to celebrate our hard work with a few before and after photos.

Most of these snaps you have seen before, but I thought I’d pop them all in one place so you can have a look through all at once. I’d also really recommend watching the below vlog, which was filmed a year ago – what a difference! I wish I had taken more photos of the flat all empty, but it looked pretty ugly ha!

The Living Room
This room has had a huge makeover, it went from being my least favourite room to my favourite – I just love this space! It went from being so yellow and old, to looking bright and fresh – and it’s not even a room we spent a lot of money on. I feel like this room really sums up Jordan and I, it’s fun, colourful, has quite a musical theme and is generally a lovely room to be in.
Before we even moved in, I painted the walls white – they were a magnolia shade – and then later on we worked on painting all the woodwork white. This made a huge difference, and it’s now so much brighter. Spending a bit of money on furniture and nice homeware also made a huge difference, and the only thing I plan to do in here is to remove the ceiling fan (wow, 80s) and replace it with a nice light fitting, sand down the floors, put a door on one of the cupboards and replace the gas fireplace with a cast iron one. Not huge jobs, but not exactly priorities right now either. Here’s my living room tour on YouTube, if you haven’t already seen.

The Office
My office has been quite easy to update, although you can see it was pretty gross. It did have white floors when we moved in, but they hadn’t been done well (there was a huge patch in the middle of the room that hadn’t been painted) and so we have painted them twice and we also painted the walls white too. You can see how the desk was, I think I was in denial at this point – there was no way my belongings were ever going to fit on such a small space. I have a double desk now, which works way better!

The Bedroom
I think this is the room that has had the most work done to it – when we bought it, it had a huge crack in the plaster on one of the walls. We had to get it taken off and replastered, then painted. We also painted the floorboards white, as they were a hideous dark blue! Gah this room was just so disgusting, but we turned it around. I’m still not 100% happy with this room, but we’ll get there – we don’t spend a lot of time in here, as the living room and my office are where we usually are, so I feel like we don’t consider it as much of a decor priority.
Watch my room tour here for full details.

The Hallway
One of our most recent projects, the hallway had magnolia textured wallpaper and orange-y stained woodwork, it was hideous. We stripped the wallpaper, and then had the walls reskimmed and then we painted them and all the woodwork. It was a big job, and I remember being SO happy when it was all done. It’s still not perfect, but that’s because I need to have a big clear out. Once of these days it’ll be complete.

So that’s what we’ve worked on so far. Next come the big projects – including a complete kitchen and bathroom makeover, as well as sanding down the floors – after that I’ll take a break for a while! Or, y’know, start over again.

What do you think of the updates?
