The problem with different versions of the same dish is that I’m usually going to like the ones closest to how my Mama made it. It was what I was raised on and I have tried different types, but always go back to Mama’s! 🙂 It also happens to be a huge hit for anyone else that we make it for! Southerners take food to anyone that has been sick, had a baby, had someone pass away, or really just to say “Hey!”. This is a side that we always make.
We also don’t measure out our ingredients so many of the recipes that I share are my best guess at the amounts we use.
Ingredients:
-1 box of elbow macaroni – cooked
-salt and pepper to taste
-can of evaporated milk
-1 egg
-Tbsp of flour
-3-4 cups of cheese(we LOVE cheese so its more like 4)
-Milk(you can add as little or as much as you want to make it “runny” or not-we usually add 1/3 or more)
-4-5 tablespoons on butter

Instructions:
Mix the first 6 ingredients together(we mix it together in the pan we’re going to cook it in to save a bowl). Add in milk until it is the consistency you’d want(we usually do 1/3-1/2 cup). Separate the butter into tablespoon sized pats and place 4-5 on top of the mixed ingredients. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. We like ours “runny”, so if you like yours more “hard”, leave it in there a few more minutes.
